Legal Basis

The Statistical Office in Kraków is part of the public statistics services supervised by the President of the Statistics Poland and operates pursuant to:

  • Act of 29 June 1995 on Official Statistics (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1799, as amended),
  • Act of 21 November 2008 on Civil Service (Journal of Laws of 2026, item 590),
  • the Statute of the Statistical Office in Kraków, granted by the Order No. 5 of the President of the Statistics Poland of 21 March 2012 (Official Journal of 2012, item 15, as amended),
  • the organizational regulations of the Statistical Office in Kraków, introduced by Internal Order No. 3 of the Director of the Statistical Office in Kraków of 10 April 2012, as amended,
  • internal regulations of the Director of the Statistical Office in Kraków.

Responsibilities

The detailed scope of responsibilities of the Statistical Office in Kraków is described in the Statute.

The Office and its local branches (in Chrzanów, Nowy Sącz, Tarnów and Zakopane) operate in the Małopolskie Voivodeship in the following areas:

  • maintaining REGON and TERYT official registers,
  • conducting and implementing censuses, broad-based surveys and social survey research,
  • sharing and disseminating statistical information,
  • popularizing and promoting statistics and disseminating knowledge about statistics,
  • cooperating with government administration bodies and local government bodies.

As part of its specialization, our Office carries out nationwide tasks for public statistics in the areas of culture, social assistance, disability, social economy, health and health care, family – in the scope of family benefits, family support and the foster care system, and care for children up to 3 years of age, internal security – in the scope of emergency services. Tasks related to this specialization are primarily carried out at:

• Centre for Cultural Statistics,

• Centre for Social Assistance Statistics,

• Research Centre for Social Economy,

• Centre for Health and Healthcare Statistics,

• Tarnów Branch.

Tasks involving the use of new technologies and data sources, as well as programming work, particularly in conducting analyses and implementing modern data processing methods and tools, are carried out at the Centre for Data Engineering.
